A "disaffected youth" drama in the vein of Rebel Without a Cause and the Japanese "Sun Tribe" pictures of the 1950s, Energetic 21 (1982) is noteworthy for the presence of a pre-superstardom Leslie Cheung, whose Canto-pop career would catapult him to fame the following year. Although Energetic 21 is an ensemble piece, Cheung gets the meatiest role, playing a cool but angry young heartbreaker struggling to come to terms with his mother's profession as a high-class call girl. Cheung's performance anticipates one of his most famous film roles as a similar character in director Wong Kar Wai's Days of Being Wild (1991).

Energetic 21 follows a band of seven well-to-do 21-year-olds who spend their days hanging out, rebelling against their parents, and generally staving off adulthood for as long as possible. Cheung's fellow Canto-pop singer Rowena Cortes costars as the lone female member of the gang who has the hots for Leslie; but Leslie's too torn up about his hooker mother to care, and Rowena has to settle for the nerdy Louie Castro. The typical romantic follies of youth give way to genuine tragedy when the gang gets involved in an altercation that leaves a foreigner dead. Wanted for murder, Leslie and his once-carefree friends find themselves on a collision course for a violent showdown with the police.

　　非法賽車手梁文斌，綽號紅魔鬼，一夜在公路上與富家子周國良之車並非飛馳，留下印象。後經其友猴子介紹，兩人相識，並決定來一場比賽。比賽過程中，國良救了文斌一命，兩人遂成好友。

　　一日，文斌與其母發生衝突，憤憤離家。眾人在郊外飛車，文斌心情煩悶，途中與一西人衝突，並錯手將西人打死。眾大驚，慌亂地處理屍體後離去。國良與俊文欲逃亡國外，不料被眾人發覺，遂發生衝突，其間國良墮樓身亡。眾人見狀迅速逃離，在警方的窮追下，猴子首先被擒，其餘三人衝入超級市場，挾持人質與警方對峙。最後三人都未能逃出法網，受到了法律的制裁。

　　Ben, a young guy made himself well-known as the "Red Devil" in illegal car racings. One night, his car sped alongside with Alan, who came from a rich family. Later they met again in a Disco through another friend. The next day, Alan had a duel with Ben but he gave up his chance of winning to save Ben from crashing onto a container truck. Thus commencing their friendship.

　　One day, Ben had a fight with his mom then he left home. Ben headed to another race in the suburb, where he met a foreigner. They had some argument and Ben unintentionally killed the foreigner. The youngsters were scared and arranged for concealment to the corpse. Meanwhile, Alan and Mann planned for an escape. Others found out and rejected. The two forced to go on to a roof and in the confusion. Alan fell off the building and died. Other guys tried to escape. The critical circumstances forced these young men to dash into a supermarket. They held up the customers as hostages. Finally these youngsters have cracked down by law.
