Professional Review of "Inside Out"

Satisfactory: "Inside Out" ~ Sally Yeh Sally Yeh, the legendary female star singer, made a comeback in 2002. Not before long was the release of her first comeback Mandarin album "You Heard", she has recently released another brand new Mandarin album "Inside Out" in Taiwan. Obviously, Sally aims to kick herself into the grand Mandarin song market again.

There are 4 completely new tunes and 8 rendition of other singers' favourites. All the 4 new songs are emotion-venting and Sally's in-form performance should win much applause.

However, the present reviewer prefers the rendition to the new tunes. Perhaps the reason is what she has said - those songs are Sally's most favourites over the years and in different stages of her life - and so she performs better because of better understanding of them.

"Don't (Turn The TV Off)" (Track#1), the leading track, sounds modern and lively, but the rhythm is a bit too mild and not exciting enough. Lu... [Read more]

Sally Yeh - Simply The Best !!Customer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Wednesday, January 07, 2004
Reviewer: ANDREW

Sally Yeh has done it again!! She never fails to impress. Her new Mandarin album Inside Out is a stunning mixture of warmth and enjoyment which will capture the hearts of all her fans. Even music lovers who are new to Sally will find something to attract their interest with the contents of this album.

I found her new album totally refreshing due to the many different styles of music that it offers. It gives such a wide choice between contemporary pop ballads, R&B, Latin and even Soul to make it thoroughly entertaining especially as the changes in tempo and style are frequent from one song to another as you go through the album. Sally is simply able to adjust her singing from various styles and octaves with such relative ease to blend perfectly with the music, whether it be ballads or more up-beat pop songs. The four new songs are thoroughly entertaining bringing a fresh new wave to the music world. The remakes of the older songs have a very contemporary and modern feel to them. due to the changes in the music arrangements and are brought right up-to-date to easily blend with the various modern styles that this day and age has to offer - but with one major difference, Sally does it a whole lot better to surpass the younger generations of singing artists in the world today. Although she is 42, she can easily blend her styles in with all types of music to really give other singers a tough run for their money.

It is very apparent when listening to this album the amount of hard work and long hours it had taken by Sally and the production team to put this together. It is very clear in the finished product and is completely appreciated. This album is one of the best to be released this year. BUT IT!!

Another one belted - literallyCustomer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Saturday, January 03, 2004
Reviewer: wdmui

I know it sounds cliche, but this is one album even a person unknown to Sally Yeh should purchase. I was so blown away by all the songs in this album. Every song is a gem because I simply couldn't find any fault in them. Despite some of the songs being old, they're still freshing because Sally Yeh sings her heart and soul for every single piece. She belts out the passion she feels knowing her fans would feel a rush of pleasure and chill on the back of their necks listening to tracks like "When I would Love One Day" (track 3) or track 10. Her vocals are so strong you can't help comparing her to another great singer - Jacky Cheung. I still remember when I first became a Sally Yeh fan back in the early ninties and then slowly drifted away. However, this album has rekindled the admiration I have for this wonderful singer. There are ballads where true emotions are illustrated, there are the more "fun" songs where Sally just lets loose and shows us she's still has the ideals of a youthful artist, and there are even songs with a slight hint of r&b elements. The album has kept me on my toes and no matter how many times I replay it, I still find unique touches incorporated to each of the 12 songs that make this album worthy of praises. No doubt that Sally Yeh has made a great come back.

YEP YEP! The Return of the Queen.Customer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Thursday, January 01, 2004
Reviewer: Wendy Loh

Sally Yeh has mastered it. Not only has she leant it well but also applied it articulately in her latest album INSIDE OUT. The "it" I am referring to is her ability to use her voice as an instrument. A good singer is one who blends with each and every music instrument used in a song. The vocal is as important as the sound of a piano, the strum of a guitar and the beat of a drum. Each has a part to play.

Known to be the singer with a voice and great looks, she lives up to these descriptions. At the age of 42, she oozes so much of sex appeal which most 20 something teen boppers paled in comparisons.

After 25 years in entertainment, Sally Yeh is now back to rule the Asian music scene. There are 4 new songs on this album. 3 of which are heart melting ballads although not soppy. The first song, Bu Yau Guan Tian Si picks up with an underground rNb feel. There are 8 cover versions but please do not be put off. Because these are not mere covers but the rebirth and remake of some good old hits like Tong Nian, Bu Yau Dui Ta Shuo and Lan Hua Cao -- SALLY YEH STYLE! Take for example, Ai Shang Yi Ge Bu Hui Jia De Ren which many would reckon as a song over sung. It was highly popular so why cover it? Why not because the talented Sally Yeh added many refreshing elements into it. Who would have thought that this song could be rendered in a deep, husky, heavy and iced cold voice? Sally Yeh did and with the additional strong scent of a sitar and a double bass! Yes, please faint. What a combination. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic one.

INSIDE OUT is an album with substance. The singer is one who can scale the octaves effortlessly with so much of emotions. The production is done with style. The songs encompass a variety of choices from pop ballads to spicy Latin songs. The album was recorded in Singapore and is produced by the creative Lee Si Siong. Sally and Si Siong had the chemistry and it is very obvious when one listens to the album. Nearly half of the songs or more are fast and cheerful. INSIDE OUT is a ground breaking creation from Asia.

The Queen has returned and is armed with an album to win!!!!!

The legend is backCustomer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Wednesday, March 03, 2004
Reviewer: jimmlim@yahoo.com

Nevertheless, Sally is one of the most famous artist of all time in Asia, especially hong kong.. She's last generation's artist but she showed us how well she can impress you by her music in the 21st century. She can really sing heavenly well and her live performances are all atop any of the new stars who dominating the chinese market nowaday.. She will be having a concert soon in March.. in hong kong n later will go around the world..WATCH OUT.. she can blow u away by her live performance. Come back to this album, i guess the 4 new tracks are not so so impressive as expected, but she still sing it out by heart, which we can seldom find someone who sing this well nowaday, except for one or 2 singers out there. The song i like the most in this album is a cover version of "AI SHANG YI GE BU HUI JIA DE REN" and the new song "AI DE KE NENG". Other songs like "TONG NIAN" sounds good n interesting plus funky.. "LAN HUA CHAO"'s arrangement is amazing n it's a bit rock in the end...which really surprised me.. A lot of new elements can be found in this album..we can see a lot of efforts were put in this album.. really have to keep it up for Sally. Although this might not be a very UPDATED album, i mean this song is not the nowaday's famous HIP-HOP or RAP or ROCK music.. but it still have some music elements like RnB, soul, dance floor...etc..which can still keep the heat in.

I was a bit sceptical when I first bought it, since majority of InsideOut are covers. But listening to it, you just can't deny that the 8 cover tracks are nothing short of breath-taking! Especially "Lan Hua Chao", which is the current single. Meanwhile, the leading track, "(Don't) Turn Off the TV" is fresh and features a stunning video. She looks good at 42! oh, and in the album in-lay too.. :)
