The second installment of the Infernal Affairs trilogy brings ultimate suspense and high quality action to your video screen! Turning into a Chinese version of the popular Godfather series, Infernal Affairs II offers its viewers an even tighter plot with a brilliant cast led by Edison Chen, Shawn Yue, Carina Lau, Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong, and Francis Ng to supply top entertainment that has rarely been seen in modern Hong Kong cinema. This silver screen epic, a prequel to Infernal Affairs, hit the astonishing $16.8 million box office mark one week after its premiere.

If you were allured to the tension-filled Infernal Affairs, you would probably like to know more about how undercover cop Chan Wing Yan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and triad mole Lau Kin Ming (Andy Lau) embarked on the road to their respective fates. Infernal Affairs II goes back to the beginning of the first story and introduces us to the triad clan controlled by the Ngai family. After the godfather of the gang and head of the Ngai family is assassinated, his son (Francis Ng) takes up his post vowing to make everybody who was involved in killing his father pay. His plan unveils the curtain for yet another turmoil among cops and triads. Police inspector Wong (Anthony Wong), triad leader Hon Sum (Eric Tsang), and his woman Mary (Carina Lau), and of course our protagonists Chan Wing Yan (Shawn Yue) and Lau Kin Ming (Edison Chen) have no choice but to step into the whirlpool...

Great sequel.Customer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Tuesday, December 16, 2003

You will not experience the same excitement and suspense as other viewers if you have not watch the first installment. The sequel provides much light into the characters and explains the motives behind what they did in the first. Action isn't the dictated here, instead it's more though provoking (almost sharing the same status of "Memento") and you're guaranteed to watch it a second time before actually understanding EVERYTHING. The directors/producers used this installment to turn the already awesome plot in the first one into a more mysterious one and viewers wouldn't find it anymore clearer after finishing this one. The balance of silence and the noises of explosions and gunshots is jarring creating a more symbolic meaning of what this Buddhist hell is really like (suffering or peace?). Symbolism plays an active role here, from the Buddhist teachings to the HK hand over. Much though was put into this great movie. Good job to all the cast.

Great MovieCustomer Review Rated Excellent - 10 out of 10Sunday, December 14, 2003

- This customer review refers to Infernal Affairs II (DTS Version)

I like the movie because everything from part 2 starts to blend in to part 1. Any Infernal Affairs fan should purchase the movie. The difference from Part 1 and 2 is that Part 1 is more good guy vs. bad guy movie, whereas, Part 2 is just all drama. The drama ranges from friendship, revenge, and betrayal. Those aspects make the movie a must watch, thumbs up for Francis Ng role in the movie. I thought Francis Ng had a difficult role to play. He has to act weak physically but have to be pure evil deep down inside too. It makes him more frightening in a way that all other members don't want to mess with him. Infernal affairs is a great trilogy to watch. The only problem is the time span of the story, Shawn Yue did not turn to Tony Leung in just couple of years and vise versa with Edison Chen and Andy Lau? Thats the only disturbing part, the time should be at least 15 or more years. The producer did that only because he wanted to link the years to the HK 1997 handover though.

Well deserve series. You'll like it as much you liked part 1. No wonder this movie gets so many awards...actors are real good.

A Little PointlessCustomer Review Rated 7 out of 10Saturday, April 03, 2004
Reviewer: Anonymous

- This customer review refers to Infernal Affairs II

I think the first part was excellent! But after watching the second part, I don't even want to watch the third part anymore. I think the second part was simply a waste of time! It just talks about what happened in the past and I think it was incredibly pointless! They didn't make it a wee bit interesting! It was nothing significant and the whole thing was just so predictable! I didn't enjoy it but I still give it a 7 because of the casts.
