Brotherhood is broken and blood is spilt in Fatal Move, an intense triad-cop actioner that recalls the glory days of Hong Kong Cinema. Director Dennis Law (Fatal Contact) assembles an unbeatable cast of genre movie stars, starting with Sammo Hung, Simon Yam, and Wu Jing, reteaming after the wildly popular SPL. Joining them are Danny Lee (The Killer), essaying his familiar role as a policeman, with veteran actress Tien Niu and genre regulars Lam Suet, Maggie Siu, Eddie Cheung, and Pinky Cheung also along for the ride. Fatal Move is a gripping underworld saga rich with themes of brotherhood and betrayal, but director Law makes sure to give the core audience what they're really looking for. Fatal Move delivers visceral, eye-opening action choreographed by Li Chung Chi (Invisible Target), and handily earns its Category III rating due to harrowing, exceptional violence. Those who enjoy their gangster sagas with a generous helping of blood should be quite happy with what Law has cooked up here.

Big Brother Lung (Sammo Hung) is the head of a strong, multi-level triad organization involved in multiple illicit activities. The anti-triad cops, led by Inspector Liu (Danny Lee) are watching their every move, but business has never been better, as Lung's brothers, including trusted lieutenant Tung (Simon Yam) and deadly enforcer Tin Hung (Wu Jing), are there to back Lung whenever necessary. But empires are sometimes built on the bodies of its people, and among Lung's organization are the unsatisfied, the power-hungry, and even those with private, deadly vendettas. The internal strife starts low in the organization, with lower bosses and their wives angling for power, but the corruption permeates every level of the triad - even Lung's inner circle. Though Lung and his loyal followers seemingly have all the angles covered, there may be some betrayers and some battles that they don't expect. Meanwhile, Inspector Liu waits and watches, knowing that he soon may have an all-out gang war on his hands.

Professional Review of "Fatal Move (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)"

With the awesome SPL still fresh in the memory, it's hard to imagine any Hong Kong action fan not getting excited at the prospect of Fatal Move. Boasting a cast reunion of Simon Yam, Wu Jing and the legendary Sammo Hung, and bringing in familiar faces such as Danny Lee, Tien Niu, Lam Suet and others, the film promises old school triad thrills, beefed up with plenty of bloody violence. Also in its favour is the fact that the film marks director Dennis Law's follow up to his excellent martial arts Wu Jing vehicle, the similarly titled Fatal Contact which certainly showed him to be more than capable of giving the modern genre a much needed shot of adrenaline.

The plot follows time-honoured tradition to the letter, focusing on a troubled triad gang led by Big Brother Lung (Sammo Hung). Poor Lung has all manner of problems, fighting to retain his turf against fierce enemies and having to out-think the scheming plotters who seem to riddle his organisation. Even hi... [Read more]

um......Customer Review Rated 6 out of 10Saturday, May 10, 2008
Reviewer: CK  (See all this customer reviews)

it's not bad. it's got a decent-to-good story to it. action is good and final action sequence (which is available on youtube) is excellent.

however, i find that this movie was distasteful in its use of gore. Let me put it this way, more limbs fly in this movie than in Saving Private Ryan. A lot of blood coughing and there's even a make you sick torture scene. and you gotta understand that this review comes from a guy that's seen a hell lot of ridiculously R-rated action and horror movies. It just seemed over-the-top for me.

So much bloodCustomer Review Rated 8 out of 10Wednesday, May 07, 2008
Reviewer: Snow  (See all this customer reviews)

Even though "Fatal Move" isn't as good as "SPL", it's definitely worth it to see Sammo Hung, Wu Jing, and Simon Yam onscreen together again. And, hey, it's Danny Lee as a cop! The story is a bit too serious and slow moving at points, but when the action comes, it doesn't disappoint. The film goes completely over the top with the gangster melodrama and violence - there's CGI blood and severed limbs left and right and Wu Jing is totally awesome as the terminator right-hand man (again).

Lower your expectations for this one. Approximately two hours show. Good performance from Simon Yam. The rest ok only. Disappointed with the ending. Recommended for rental.
