  | Classic Movie Night As award-winning South Korean films continue to set box-office records across Asia, little attention is given to the peninsula’s other cinematic powerhouse. But North Korea has a film culture all its own, and on May 12 to 14, 2008, The Korea Society will screen four films from the DPRK’s sophisticated, but-rarely-seen, canon at our special Classic Movie Night screenings.
The films—Hong Gil Dong, Bellflower, and My Look in the Distant Future—have never been distributed outside the Soviet bloc, and like the rest of North Korean media, are first and foremost tools of state propaganda. Even so, the tales—of peasant farmers struggling against feudal lords, anti-Japanese resistance fighters, and ordinary citizens loyal to their hometowns—are told with genuine artistry and concern. As both artifact and art, they provide a glimpse of the universe within North Korea.
Tickets are available for $7 (members), $12 (non-members), and $30 (for all three movies) at www.koreasociety.org. For more information, please contact Yuni Cho at (212) 759-7525, ext.323 or yuni.ny@koreasociety.org. All films will be screened at The Korea Society (950 Third Avenue, Eighth Floor, New York City; building entrance on the SW corner of 57th Street and Third Avenue).

| | Looks great YumCha! really looks great... I can find substantial content here. So many reviews and features on Asian movies. It would be even better if there can be some more music content.

| | A good beginning Thanks YesAsia, for putting together YumCha! Sometimes I would find your articles and reviews scattered on the site, but after a while I sometimes lost them. This allows me to reference all of them in one place. I hope one day the reviews are sorted in alphabetically, or something, to make them easier to find.Posted By: Lance Manion Submitted on: Monday, December 04, 2006
