由陳慧琳、黎明與甄子丹領銜主演，程小東導演的浪漫武俠史詩鉅作《江山美人》，呈現戰國烽火的時代家國情仇！曾拍攝《倩女幽魂》、《笑傲江湖》的程小東導演，近年來為不少戰爭大片如《投名狀》、《滿城盡帶黃金甲》和《十面埋伏》等擔當動作和武術指導，2008年重執導筒，把陳慧琳塑造為重情義的燕國公主，片中她為國為民盡顯社稷精神，且為情郎而甘願放下江山，以反傳統的女性新思想和宣揚反戰的訊息，來打造這部蕩氣回腸的愛情故事。

片中以諸侯割據、烽火連天的戰亂年代為背景，燕國公主飛兒(陳慧琳飾)因父王在戰場上遇害，在忠勇雪虎將軍(甄子丹飾)輔助之下代父領軍，肩負起保國安民的重任。在一次林中實戰，飛兒公主險些被奸臣暗殺，結果被樹林中世外高手段蘭泉(黎明飾)所救而互生情愫。面對情人與家國的兩難存局面，當飛兒公主打算放棄江山之際，此時卻驚聞燕國遭奸臣謀權的噩耗……

耗費億萬鉅資拍攝，《江山美人》除了拍出戰場上兵馬交鋒的大場面，眾主角的武打場面甚有可觀性。從未拍攝武打片的陳慧琳更親自上陣，拍攝多場騎術和武術的場面，又穿上盔甲與大將甄子丹等多場耍劍武鬥，巾幗不讓鬚眉。另外，陳慧琳與黎明在隱居山林之中的邂逅，情郎為公主點起的孔明燈飛船，兩人合唱電影主題曲「隨夢而飛」的一幕，浪漫窩心，由金像獎美術總監奚仲文親手打造。

Feier and her loyal Muyong Xuehu [Donnie Yen] unite to defend the kingdom. But her ambitious cousin Wu Ba [Guo Xiao-dong] sends assassins to kill her. A mysterious man Duan Lan-Quan [Leon Lai] saves her. Feier falls in love with Duan who offers her another life. With the fate of their kingdom in the balance, Feier must choose between her duty and her dreams.

What a waste of money

Like many other big-budget movies, Chinese or Western, this movie was dragged down by very poor script-writing - dreadfully. I usually try to be as tolerant as possible of the storyline when watching a movie, but this one just broke my limit. The movie's got many strong points: good cinematography, good fight scenes, and even reasonably good acting from Kelly and Leon considering that they are ill-cast to their roles. Contrary to what another viewer suggested, the DVD quality is top-notch (I'm an AV enthusiast, and I've been watching Blu-rays on a 92" screen, so I know a good DVD when I see one). Halfway through the movie, I found it reasonably good and could not understand why it got all the bad reviews. Then it was all downhill - purely because of the script. I could not help but laugh at how stupid and predictable the story unfolded and wonder how any person with a brain could have written this. It was actually three: this movie's got three writers. In the name of the good practice of no-spoiler film review, I would not reveal details of the movie's storyline to illustrate my point.

A plea for all big-budget movie producers: Before you think of how many special effects and big fight scenes to put in, get the story right first - absolutely right. Nothing can save a movie if the storyline is downright bad.

I think people should take this film for what it is- a semi cute romantic action flick. If you don't go into this film with insanely high expectations you will really enjoy it. I liked it a lot. Having seen a bunch of Donnie Yen's previous efforts, and many Chinese films, I thought this one was, well.. Nice. Its not the overly dramatic Warlords, or a cheesy love story like My Left Eye Sees Ghosts, and its not a artsy "Hero" film either. It is what it is. That being said I think its pretty enjoyable. It isn't hours after hours of fighting. And yes the plot is semi predictable, but not that that is necessarily a bad thing. Given that so many asian films you expect everyone to be betrayed 100 times throughout the film. I liked it.

My buying this movie is because of Donnie Yen. Or maybe i expected somehing better. It's more of a romanctic tale rather than action. I don't like the ending, although it's sweet.

Still the action done by Donnie is something worth watching.
