　　《早安》是不常見的小津式喜劇，他說他決定這樣做不是為了票房，而只是「希望有更多人看我的影片」。故事發生在東京市郊的住宅區，林啟太郎的兩個「百厭星」終日嚷著要買電視，父親罵他們嘴多，他們回說大人的廢話更多，什麼「早安」、「午安」都是多餘。父親要他們閉嘴，他們果真來個無聲抗議。另一邊廂，幾個家庭主婦因為儲蓄合作社的供款不翼而飛，鬧出個茶杯裡的風波。隔壁的師奶跟孩子說「早安」碰了個一鼻子灰，遂認定是孩子的媽跟她們過不去…小津借幾個天真爛漫的小孩子一語道破成年人世界的種種猜疑與固執，是一部既大搞放屁笑話，又發人深省的作品。影片有很多地方與三二年《我出生了，但…》相似，是他一連三部「重拍」作品的第一部。

　　This film, one of Ozu's most popular, resembles an earlier masterpiece, I Was Born But … (1932) Two little boys live with their parents in a close-quartered suburban neighbourhood. There is a misunderstanding among the next-door neighbour ladies. Meanwhile, after an argument with their parents - they want a TV set, and the father refuse to buy one - the boys are told to shut up. Taking their parents at their word they shut up completely, won't talk to anyone, not even the neighbours who, finding the customary morning greeting ("Ohayo!") unanswered, at once assume that the mother is angry with them and the neighbourhood quarrel begins. Ozu constructs a gentle, witty comedy of manners out of everyday life to underlie a thought-provoking theme : of what exactly constitutes the basis of true communication in society
