花果山上有一仙石，一天突然轟然迸姴，爆出靈猴孫悟空（張衛健）。悟空身手敏捷，一身神異本領，卻因醉酒而闖下大禍，被壓於五指山下。
五百年後，悟空奉觀音（龔慈恩）之命，隨唐三藏（江華）到西方取經，作其徒弟，修成正果，才得以贖罪。悟空遂隨唐三藏上路，沿途困難重重，他與豬八戒（黎耀祥）及沙僧（麥包）合力降魔伏妖，展開一段艱辛的取經旅程……

Journey to west
| I watched the china version of monkey king and it so boring. I know that how the book is like. But when I watched this version, I was really fascinated. I cant believe tvb can keep the original storyline and still make the plot so interesting and so lively. I know lots of tvb series are heavily edited but this one is not. However, some of the stories have been rearranged. The 3 demon story should come after the skeleton story I believe but it came after the red kid. This happen in the sequel too I dont know why tvb rearrange the stories around, it still the same amount of discs. Maybe when they released the dvd the stories will be in the same order |

Journey to the west
| I think tvb has always made its series interesting. This one is definitely one of the best journey to the west, along with the sequel, I have seen. I think the most touching story is the one about the spider. I think it should have good ending for that story. Other than that I think all the stories are cool. THe China version is no comparision to this one |
